Not all fandom is written
I was going to talk about Summer, With Garment Cast Aside next, as it’s an AU of Everything Spring and that kind of symmetry/grouping appeals to me on some base level, but–
Sometimes, you just need tentacles.
Tentacles with DCUAnimated!Tim.
That’s right. It’s Love is a Warm Tentacle. “Tim makes a new friend.”
So, first up in this Feast of Te, is her story arc, The Drowners. (The series begins with When At Last Our Starving Eyes). The series starts when Tim first sees the ghost of Jason Todd. Jason, happy that, finally, someone can see him hangs around. They become…close.
If you haven’t read it–go read it. If you have read it, go re-read it. Then come back, and we’ll talk.
I can’t believe I haven’t talked about these yet.
So, this might be the funniest fan-made video series I have ever seen. It’s Marvel Vs DC by ItsJustSomeRandomGuy. The concept is simple; parody the Mac Vs PC commercials and comic book movies by having action figures of the characters act out the ads, and discuss their own movies.
This is the first one.
This…pretty much sums up my feelings vampires, teen vampire dramas, Buffy, and Twilight.
I like vampires as a concept. There is something truly creepy and powerful and elegant about a Stoker-Style Dracula that I really enjoy; the super hunter, man’s (super)natural predator. There’s something very lizard brain about fearing something that can eat you.
However, I feel, today, that vampires, particularly teen vampire love stories are overdone. Because Whedon did it first. And best. I could do the breakdown, how Twilight is Buffy, but Emo and severely lacking in female empowerment, but it’s been done before.
I could also say that True Blood did it better, and I haven’t even seen it.
However, I have (tried) to read Twilight, back when it first came out. I couldn’t get past the first page, the writing was so bad. Look. I don’t care if you have a trite or recycled plot with a ridiculous premise. I read fanfiction. Obviously, that doesn’t bother me. What does bother me is poor grammar in a published work. Buy a freakin’ manual.
So, to soothe my anger, I leave you with this. My favorite crossover vid. Ever.
So, it’s Saturday, and I’m still not sure what to put here. I already have a “Whatever Wednesday,” I have (2) story rec days and author rec days and… hmmm….
Maybe an “Other Rec” day. Yeah. A day to recommend thing that are not (technically) fandom–but close. Like, movies that I feel will explode with fandom, book or tv shows that I want to see fic for… Yeah, I like that idea.
Let’s start with a movie. I saw this Thursday night, and have been squeeing about it ever since. I wasn’t expecting much, as it’s the fourth in a franchise and I was let down by the last two. However, not only was it an amazing movie, but it set my little slasher heart alight with song.
No, it’s not Pirates of the Caribbean 4. It’s X-Men: First Class.
Here’s the trailer:
Now, I’m writing this at work (heh) and had the trailer on silent. You cannot tell me that the beginning doesn’t read like a Romance. A tragic Romance, but still. Ladies and Gentlemen: the Bromance in Action!
Warning: Minor Spoilers…
